Sabine is one of the most dedicated, hard, working and caring gardeners I have worked with. I worked with Sabine in several gardening initiatives around the City of Houston and Harris County. Sabine help lead “Community Greens” a project from a larger Honor Student run group, Honors in Community Health (HICH) based from the University of Houston. Sabine helped in helping areas in Houston considered ‘Food Desert Areas’ increase the availability of Fruits, Vegetables Anne herbs. We worked with local non profits to make some of the grown crops available on their stores at a discounted rate and/or free for people living within the community. Sabine also worked in conjunction with the Lead Gardener at the City of Houston’s Health Department in a network of 21 community centers whereby she help built gardens from the ground up. She would help gather student groups and volunteers from various universities to work alongside the community. She helped in targeting growing staple food that the community enjoyed (as was an important metric to ensure success of the projects) by surveying individuals living in the nearby neighbors. Sabine also explored various methods of sustainable gardening such as vertical gardening, aquaponics, hydroponics, composting, and using soil additives such as worm castings, fungi, and others. She worked alongside non-profits, businesses, farms, farmers markets and other groups that used these various methods of gardening. Sabine also assisted in State and Federal initiatives to increase pollinator habitat. Sabine personally assisted in creating over 10 urban pollinator habitats within Harris County working with Houston Wilderness, Trees for Houston, Harris County Flood Control, the Port of Houston and Houston ISD. I also worked alongside Sabine at ‘Magnificat Houses - Dona Marie Farm’ where she helped in exploring sustainable gardening methods and also helped in rehabilitating the residents suffering from mental disorders by gardening and healthy cooking as a way of therapy. Through patience and love, Sabine was able to make very close connections with the residents as she displayed her knowledge and expertise in gardening. Personally, I have had the opportunity to know and work along side Sabine. She is, in my experience, the embodiment of the values, virtues, abilities, and visions we can most hope for and most earnestly encourage in someone truly passionate in this field.

Since working with Sabine, I have been able to observe excellent qualities such as her ability to be a responsible and effective leader while also being able to respond to every situation in a professional manner. Sabine has proven that she is willing and able to go beyond what is required from her whether that be working in a down pour for the project or training others. It has been an honor to work with her for the past year and I feel that she is the best fit for the position being offered.
