Gardener in Arvada, Colorado
I have 7 years of experience gardening and managing vegetation in meadows, golf courses, streams, wetlands, and residential properties. I began by doing landscaping and mowing for neighbors in high school. In college at Penn State, I was able to have 2 different research positions in agriculture. These involved growing thousands of different bean plants and analyzing them throughout their growing cycle. During the summer of 2017, I was an environmental intern at Kennett Square Country Club. My main responsibilities were creating and maintaining meadows, restoring the riparian buffer zone along the stream, and managing the vegetation inside of wetlands and rain gardens. For the last year and a half, I have been working full-time as the Roadside Vegetation Manager for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Some of my main responsibilities are maintaining an ongoing inventory of all roadside maintenance activities, sending work lists to contractors on a regular basis, monitoring available funds in budget for all contracted roadside maintenance contracts, and updating quantity usage on a weekly basis. In other words, I was the sole person responsible for scheduling tree removals, brushing work, herbicide, mowing, and other vegetation related activities for a whole county. I am also a certified pesticide applicator.
I am looking for a job that allows me to be outdoors and keeps me somewhat active during the day. I enjoy caring for and preserving the environment. Working with plants and vegetation has always been very fulfilling and I would like to continue in this line of work.
